1. Poison Spyder Offroad Park

This incredible trail was initially meant for transporting freight between the two cities, Montana and Utah. This freight road was established way back in 1862! You can see the old cemetery that’s still there at Waypoint 4 to get a glimpse of the bygone Wild West era, as well! From Bannack Road, you can access and explore the Bannack ghost town, which still features well-preserved buildings, structures, and amazing relics of the past - perfect for the Halloween season! The trail winds its way through grassy hills and a wide valley with the Rocky Mountains visible in the distance, so there are plenty of natural sights to admire as you experience the wonders of off-roading!
2. Morrison Jeep Trail

Tucked away within the Shoshone National Forest, Morrison Jeep Trail running from Clarks Fork River valley to the Beartooth Plateau. This is an extraordinarily difficult trail with heavy rocks and deep ruts, so only 4WD vehicles with experienced drivers should attempt it. The road is known for its 27 tight switchbacks that make up the ascent from the Clarks Fork River to the top of Beartooth Plateau. The turns are really bad, narrow and steep. The switchbacks are even steeper than they look. The grade in some areas is as steep as 25 degrees.
3. Thunder Basin National Grassland

A little over an hour and a half west of Casper are the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest and Thunder Basin National Grassland. Between the national forest and grassland, 2.9 million acres are covered between northeastern Wyoming and north central Colorado. Visitors are provided with mountain ranges, crystal clear streams, breathtaking views, and endless recreation opportunities. Within the national park and forest are some popular off-road trails. Venture to Ehlin Road, Crow Creek Trail, or the Ellis Jeep trail for some amazing 4x4 fun!
4. Antelope Basin

Finally, Bighorn National Forest is located 105 miles north of Casper, making the travel time to this location around two hours. There is a variety of terrain in Bighorn including flat to steep hill climbs, gravel, and water crossings. This forest is part of protected land which means there are rules and regulations in place while using the trails. In the last decade, Wyoming has seen a huge increase in the recreational use of public land. It is important to stay on designated trails because going off the paths can damage wildlife habitats and cause resource damage.
